Phila. Inspector Joseph Bologna charged with aggravated assault, VP of police union threatens public on Facebook
On Wednesday, FOP 1st Vice President Robert "Skippy" Carroll posted to the lodge's official Facebook page:
"If you choose to speak out against the police or our members, we will do everything in our power to not support your business."
He then signed it and shared via his personal account, adding "Try us. We'll destroy you."
There's a change.org petition to have this guy removed.
The Delco Times reports that Caroll also holds a leadership position with the PA Municipal Police Education and Training Commission
On Thursday, John McNesby, President of FOP Lodge #5, confirmed that Philadelphia police will be boycotting DiBruno Bros
This is not the first time Philadelphia police have been caught sharing bigoted or offensive Facebook posts. Almost exactly one year ago, 323 active-duty Philadelphia police officers were caught sharing offensive posts. It resulted in four officers receiving 30-day suspensions and 72 officers being put on restricted ("desk") duty.
Thirteen officers posted content that Commissioner Richard Ross believed indicated "they had little to no regard for their position as police officers" and were terminated. He did not name the officers, but read aloud some of the comments.
According to WHYY, two officers - Jesus Cruz and Joseph Przepiorka had posted content that was quoted by the commissioner, and that they were among the 13 recommended for dismissal. Another source lists Sergeant Mark Palma as well.
In addition, DA Larry Krasner has said that some of the posts demonstrate bias that could bar certain officers fro testifying at criminal trials.
On Friday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced several charges, including aggravated assault, against Police Staff Inspector Joseph Bologna. These charges came after video surfaced of Bologna striking a college student in the head with a metal baton, resulting in the need for 10 staples.
In case you needed an instruction manual to inform you that striking the head with a metal baton can be lethal, pretty much every extant document involving ASP batons involves a notice to avoid striking the head, neck, throat, spine, tailbone, chest, kidney, liver, or collar bone.
So why do police unions act like the mafia? Perhaps it's time for a big RICO trial after all.
