Rep. Thomas Caltagirone accused of sexual misconduct again, will not seek re-election in 2020
In 2017, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on Rep. Thomas Caltagirone, who was accused of sexual harassment by a former staffer in 2015. Caltagirone alone accounts for almost half of the $500,000 in taxpayer-funded settlements paid by PA House Democrats since 2007.
This is not the first time Caltagirone has been accused of sexual harassment. In 1993, his ex sister-in-law, Marci Lynn Santoro, accused him of attempting to sexually assault her. Allegedly, he then threatened her with a gun. A couple years later, his son, John Caltagirone was arrested on several theft and firearms charges, and may have literally gotten away with murder.
According to PennLive, Santoro's complaint was filed with the Berks County DA's office, who transferred it to the State DA, Ernie Preate. Caltagirone accused Preate of pursuing a political vendetta before Preate suddenly resigned amidst mail fraud charges. In 1995, acting District Attorney Walter Cohen closed the investigation without filing charges.
Thankfully, he will not be seeking re-election in 2020.
